Making it big time

I received notice today from the state’s Human Rights Bureau that an inmate has filed a discrimination complaint against me.

Just yesterday, I’d been joking with my inmate workers that I haven’t been grieved by an inmate in so long, I’m starting to feel weird. Guess I should have knocked on wood.

Last fall, an inmate sent me a request for a mailing address for the National Association for the Advancement of White People (NAAWP). I figured it was probably some kind of white supremacy bullshit thing, but I thought, what the hell, I’ll look it up. Sure enough, white power crap all over the place.

Because I’m not obligated to find addresses for inmates, particularly addresses for hate groups, I sent his request back to him without it. (Interesting sidebar: This is the same inmate who got put in the hole a while back for threatening to smash my face in.) Anyway, blah blah blah, now he claims I’m discriminating against him because he’s a white guy. (Another interesting sidebar: I’m a white gal.)

I talked with the staff attorney right away. She scoffed at the little twerp’s current efforts. A couple years ago, he filed a discrimination complaint because he was a Muslim and everybody was picking on him. Now he’s embracing his white heritage and complaining once again. The staff attorney feels confident that his current complaint will be dismissed, just like the last one.

Anyway, I’ve come to the conclusion that I’ve finally arrived. When inmates are naming you directly in complaints and lawsuits, you know you’ve made it big.
